Social media & community 2.0

So being in NYC while the Social media & community 2.o conference goes down was not much fun. I would have loved to be in the thick of the conversation and interesting information being shared at the event. Cest la vive; I was able to get live tweets @community20 & community20.blogspot.com (thank you)!

It seems the commonality between tweets was get your community involved. From the begining keep the doors of innovation open and the conversation flowing by being open. Open to new ideas, concepts and partnerships. This holds true accross all industries I feel.

What’s funny is how in 1998-1999 I was a party of some very large communities, I was even a MOD of one with 7k members which at the time felt as if the whole internet was on our board. Things have swung 180 degrees, here we are building niche communities in 2010. The same principles hold true to having a good community:

Pick a niche
Find strong evangilists (mods)
Allow openness
Build community
Help each other

On the back end:
Build an seo’d monster
Gain tons of user gen content

One of the communities mentioned on #socialc20 was the scotttrade. It got me to thinking what made it a sucess?

One of the key factors: MONEY.

If you have a trading method making you consistant $$$, and your willing to share that strategy with others in the community. Of course it will be a success! Who doesn’t want to get rich quick so to speak.

Another thing mentioned was video resumes and how it was not a success, I wonder why? Was it because the potential job seeker looked great on paper but lost all appeal once audio/video came into place..

Stuff to ponder!

Looking forward to move live coverage tomorrow!

Ps if this looks bad, take it up with the driver of my bus!

Namaste

The info mentioned here is my own opinion and not of my company.
